You are gold

There’s a story of a Buddha made of gold that sat atop a mountain within the gates of a monastery. Every day, the monks would sit at the feet of this golden Buddha to pray. One day, the monks from their mountain top see an invasion coming from a neighbouring village. Knowing that the invasion was imminent, the monks decide to cover their golden Buddha with mud so that the invaders will think nothing of it and move on. As expected, the invasion happened. Treasures were pillaged and the invaders kept rule. Years had passed and the invaders left with time. The monks through all this time had forgotten there was gold under the muddied Buddha they prayed at the foot of every morning. One day during morning prayer, an earthquake hit the monastery, shaking the ground with a mighty force. Once balance was restored, the monks went back to prayer, only something was different. A monk noticed a sparkle coming from within a crack that formed on the great Buddha. With an inquisitive effort, the monks began searching for the source of the sparkle, removing layer after layer of dried mud surrounding the glow. They quickly removed all the mud until what stood before them left them in awe. A great golden Buddha had been there the whole time, and everyone had forgotten.

Today, know that you were born gold, are gold and will die gold. That is the true constant in your life. Our experiences that hurt us add layers of mud to protect us from our fears, but the mud can never take away who we truly are.
